About

The Sahidic Bible Citations Database

The Sahidic Bible Citations Database (CitDB) is a dataset of biblical citations in Coptic literature compiled from various editions. We like to thank our student assistants and trainees at the Academy project Digital Edition of the Coptic-Sahidic Old Testament who contributed to this database over the course of several years:

  • Nina Speransky
  • Dominique Buckles
  • Joanna Hypszer
  • Julien Delhez

Editons used

All biblical citations were compiled from a selection of Sahidic Coptic authors and writings. The identification of biblical verses were also taken over directly from their respective editions:

Each entry is usually classified by type as a Citation, if the text follows the Sahidic bible more or less verbatim, or as an Allusion, if the reference is vague.

The text of the Sahidic Bible

The text of the Sahidic Bible used on this website is a composite text extracted from various biblical manuscripts. For more information on the sources and the contributing parties, see the explanatory note for the Sahidic Bible 2 module on Crosswire.org.

Programming

The Sahidic Bible Citations Database website was developed by Malte Rosenau for the Digital Edition of the Coptic Old Testament in July 2020. The site makes excessive use of the API of the Coptic Old Testament Virtual Manuscript Room, developed by Troy Griffitts, especially for the parsing of biblical references and the retrieval of biblical texts. For formatting bibliographic references, this website uses the Zotero API.
